    The birth of RealTennis out of the atrophy is an absolutely powerful element that has a lot of legs left. Truely. Amazing and still the best in its genre/market. Hope you refer both channels to each other. Have the brands reconnect. (I loved that time and space in the warehouse. Maybe you can find a great one once more! As part of new directions) It seems you also really love doing that type of presence, and the product of it. In a sense it's like the podcast to your educational content. It's a more personal casual vibe. You pop off the screen, during matches and commentary.( I mean not as much as Scott but heck who does.) I hope RealTennis remains part of your focus on ET. All the best to you.thank you and respect from Europe.

    Thank you. I'm looking forward to try this routine. *** The most complex thing for me (as a person who tried to server for about a solid half an hour) is to try to find a proper angle the force should be applied with. It's not a very common thing in life to throw smth for a position above the head, trying to place a hit in some range. And it becomes a bit more coprehensive when one have to do it with some tools (like a racket) rather than a part of the body... an extra height, provided by a length of a racket, helps a bit tho. I quite sure it's matter of time to get used to this procedure. But it's a relatively complex thing even on a initial level (without a strong impulse and different spins).

    Im over 70 and i run two teams. I have to tell/convince my partner NOT to stay closer to the net than the rear serve box line or the opp will just hit the ball over their heads left and right to run me back and forth at the rear of the court until they exhaust me, which doesnt take long at my age! so if my partner stands on the rear service box line, they can usually easily cover any shot trying to get over their heads and cut that off by backing up 4 steps. my partner can run forward 4x faster than they can run backwards is what i tell them, which soon becomes obvious if they ignore me. my fast shots down the sideline is my bread n butter, and drop shots if u can scare the opp into staying far back. most of my opps are 10 20 30 yrs younger than me but i can still score on them no problem. i bring my bluetooth speaker and play it LOUD salsa music, everyone loves it!!

    I want to know how to do this. Sounds easy to say “don’t focus on it” or “it’s not important”…. If you were looking over the precipice of a cliff, your brain stem takes over and your body follows your brain stem not the part that’s saying there is nothing to worry about…

  • @mikechan231
    @mikechan231 2 дні тому

    Amazed that more people aren’t interested in “stroke mastery” - that’s the interesting challenge in my mind. If you want to win, play someone that sucks. If you want to compete, play someone better. Ball dinkers are horrible to play against. They feast on players with technical flaws, while they hide their own weaknesses by not actually swinging at the ball. Sure, it’s a legit strategy but how boring. Why show up to the court only to hide from the ball- just go play golf or something.

    Yeah, it's so funny. When you stop trying to flip the racquet over and just swing out with your whole body and arm (not wrist), you actually get tons of topspin. It's really unintuitive until you experience it. A lot of people it seems even with the right swing path get no control and spin when they just arm it. So the body plays a role too.

    • @EssentialTennis
      @EssentialTennis 2 дні тому

      YES, excellent comment. The more people focus on the arm/hand the harder it is to generate a lot of swing speed in any direction.

  • @jeffmodrowjm
    @jeffmodrowjm 3 дні тому

    Notice that on your forehand side that your elbow is tight to your body. Your arm is quiet and just the tip of the racquet is moving. On your backhand your elbow is away from your body and you are using more of your shoulder to move the racquet. Biggest mistake of many players and instructors. Keep the elbow squeezed in just like the forehand and think about moving only the tip of the racquet. 😊

When 4 monts ago you said you were going to reinvent your channel, I was afraid you had run out of steam and you were going to attempt some desperate moves, but I'm glad to see that you only changed the gear and accelerated forward. Your new videos are on a much higher level than those from the past. They are carefully written, planned in high detail, shot and edited with a high degree of proffesionalism. And most importantly: the content is interesting, you describe the technique in a very clear manner, you also touch subjects that others ignore (I especially loved the two videos directly after "Starting over..."). Hats off!

    I guess I'd be curious how much of a factor the type of grip you use plays into top spin generation. That wasn't discussed in this video. If I normally use continental grip, which isn't considered great for generating top spin, would you recommend switching grips or is it achievable/useful to just try to incorporate a bit of top spin in spite of using a continental grip?

    • @EssentialTennis
      @EssentialTennis 3 дні тому

      The function of a more aggressive grip is to make it easier to keep the racquet face closed while swinging upward more aggressively. Switching from continental to eastern or semi-western doesn't "make more topspin" on its own.....you still have to learn how to drop the racquet lower below contact and accelerate upwards more steeply. If I was working with somebody hitting forehands with a true continental grip (can't remember the last time I saw that) and they wanted to work on creating more topspin I would probably recommend at least a slight grip change, yes.

    • @paulmasterson6435
      @paulmasterson6435 3 дні тому

      @@EssentialTennis Ayyy, got a response! Thanks for the technical explanations, and all you do to clear up the common misconceptions in tennis! You were right to call out that I was a bit mistaken in that I actually have more of a semi western grip, not continental. It sounds like swing path is king, rather than the grip or even the strings used on the racquet, I'd imagine. Thanks again!

    Seeing a player with well executed strokes and strategy is indeed inspiring. But I go back to the many videos done with MEP who is far from a classic stroke player. Of course, with his current game he would not progress to next level competitive tennis. But really, how many people even with extensive training progress to 5.0 levels and above? I am not discounting good coaching, only saying that tennis should be fun and at intermediate levels it is always about who gets the ball over the net, in the opponent's court, and the opponent does not return it. If a "hack" beats a player with better strokes and form, the hack is the better player in that match.

  • @domkelly1972
    @domkelly1972 6 днів тому

    Yeah but the point is to create space to hit a winner. I don't have to run anywhere if I hit a down the line winner . What's the point of endlessly hitting cross court? Surely you run way more than hitting a clean winner. The problem with this strategy is that you are not taking into account who is hitting. If you can't hit a clean winner down the line then no strategy will help as you will just get exhausted hitting cross court or your tennis becomes about the other player making errors. If you can hit a winner down the line then you must do it when the opportunity arises. So the idea is to hit an effective serve, plan for a forehand into space and go from there using the simple cross court or inside in method. If you can't do that then you won't have any control over what happens as your opponent will come into play more often. Lets be honest, most players can't do the above so it makes no difference to play cross court or down the line as the points are decided by errors not winners. Not an enjoyable way to play any game.
